Wheelchairs For Kids Overseas- the life of a child can be transformed for $200
Wheelchairs For Kids [WFK] is a Rotary charity based in Perth. 150 volunteers manufacture and distribute wheelchairs to needy, disabled children across the globe. No charge is made either to the children or the organisations, such as World Vision and International Red Cross, assisting in their placement.
The wheelchairs are built specially for rough terrain, adjustable for the child’s size. They are equipped with postural supports, head rest, harness, a waterproof cushion, tray, tool kit, plus a knee rug, and a knitted toy.
On delivery of the chairs to the receiving sites, agency and hospital personnel, therapists and individuals are involved in providing therapy in the field. This ensures each chair is correctly adjusted and fitted to the receiving child.
The $200 it costs to produce a wheelchair gives a child a new experience of freedom of mobility for the first time in their life. This transforms not only the child's life but also their families and local community.

Mosman Rotary has started a fundraising program for WFK concentrated on Greater Sydney. One of the ways that funds are raised is through “wheelathons” at schools. We would bring 15 wheelchairs to the event so that the boys and girls can push or be pushed around an age appropriate course. In order to raise funds the children would be asked to obtain per lap sponsorship. The total monies raised would then be passed on through Mosman Rotary to the charity; tax receipts are available if required.
These type of events have been held on a regular basis in Perth and Melbourne. They have proved to be a popular and fun activity for the children involved and a wonderful opportunity for them to make a real difference to the lives of other children.
